Gather your gaggle and head down to 5th and Main this Friday for fun, farmers, food and a healthy dose of arts and crafts! Every third Friday during the 2010 season is a dedication to the kid in all of us. This Friday join us for an art session on vegetable printing hosted by the Emerald Art Center at 3PM and Farmers’ Market Bingo from 3:30-4:15. Bingo winners can choose from an assortment of prizes including market plants and produce or a mystery prize out of the farmers’ market tote bag. In 2010, Springfield Farmers’ Market will continue to offer fresh, local produce, and will also provide a schedule of exciting, family friendly community events every week. Every evening market shoppers can enjoy live music and entertainment throughout downtown Springfield. Stop by this Friday for the sweet sounds of washboard and fiddle as the Whiskey Chasers perform bluegrass from 5:30-7PM. Springfield Farmers’ Market accepts credit, debit and SNAP benefits (food stamps), and is easily accessible with parking close at hand and wide aisles to stroll through. Eugene sizzles! Community members and visitors are invited to spend their summer outside enjoying this unique series of outdoor concerts, movies, performances, breakfasts at bike bridges, skate competitions and dancing. Enjoy open air movies in our local parks and bring a picnic to the much-loved Sunday afternoon concerts in Washburne Park. Head downtown on Wednesday evenings to take part in everything from Circus Circus! for families, and open air dancing, to a fashion show hosted by local artists. Details: All events are family-friendly. Most events are free; downtown events are free with donation of one can of food to Relief Nursery; Skate Competitions $3. Eugene Gleemen to Begin 86th Season! The Eugene Gleemen, the longest continuously operating choral organization in Oregon, will begin its 86th season in September. The Gleemen will begin rehearsing for its fall concert on Tuesday, September 14 at 7:00pm in the First Christian Church Grace Chapel. No auditions are required but some singing experience is desired. The group, under the direction of John Jantzi, is inviting male voice repertoires. Officially founded in 1926, the Gleemen have been on the Eugene-Springfield arts scene performing fall, winter and spring concerts, singing holiday music at area retirement and assisted living facilities, and making appearances at the Lane County Fair, Emeralds baseball games, private functions, and in surrounding communitities. Members regularly participate in service activities in their home communitities including such causes as clothing drives for the homeless and singing in Eugene Opera Chorus productions.
